During the spring we often discover these birds at our yards but we hardly know about them and their journey. Hummingbird is also a migrating bird, we all know Hummingbird to be the smallest bird in the world. But do you know it is a migrating bird as well? Yes, they can travel nonstop at a speed of 48 kilometers per hour. Their migration route takes them through the Gulf of Mexico which is around 600 miles. Undoubtedly, the journey is huge for such a small bird like a Hummingbird.

Migrating birds know about their track very well, it is rather shocking to know how these birds are so particular about their paths. They cover miles and miles of distance and come back to home without a single mistake in navigation. That is because they use the stars, the sun, and earth’s magnetism to help them find their way.

Migrating birds have so many obstacles during their journey, they always face so many threats during their long journey. Their biggest threat in the journey back to home is the predators like owls or hawks and other problems include dehydration, starvation, oil drilling rigs in the ocean and drastic climate changes. To avoid these problems, they fly at a certain time of the day.

Birds need specific items when landing after a long flight, they become very tired and hungry after finishing their long flight. Therefore, they need food, water and some nesting materials to lay their eggs. So when you see migrating birds in your yard, try to manage some foods, water and other items like string, hay, pet hair, strips of fabric and natural sources of twigs so that they can build their nest to have their babies.

Migrating birds fly at different times, you’ll be surprised to know that there are so many birds who migrate at night. They do this for various reasons .At night, the air is cooler and comfortable for them the risk of predators is less because of their low visibility at night. But not all the birds migrate at night.
